About the YellaWood 500
Talladega's fall race began as the Talladega 500 in September 1969 — the superspeedway's very first Cup race, won by Richard Brickhouse after a driver boycott over tire safety. It later ran as the DieHard 500, Winston 500 and EA Sports 500 among other names, becoming the YellaWood 500 in 2020. The 500-mile pack race is a wild-card fixture of the Cup Series playoffs each October.
