Daytona's second annual Cup race began as the Firecracker 250 on July 4, 1959, expanded to 400 miles in 1963, and spent six decades as NASCAR's Independence Day tradition. In 1998 it became the first Daytona stock car race run at night under the lights. Since 2020 the race has been held in late August as the regular-season finale, the last chance to race into the playoffs.

Daytona International Speedway is a 2.5-mile asphalt tri-oval in Daytona Beach, Florida, with 31-degree banking in the turns and 18 degrees at the tri-oval. Built by NASCAR founder Bill France Sr., it opened in 1959 and is home to the Daytona 500.

Following the 2016 'Daytona Rising' renovation, permanent seating is approximately 101,500.
