About the Bass Pro Shops Night Race
Bristol's fall race dates to 1961 as the Volunteer 500 and became a night-racing spectacle in 1978, when Cale Yarborough won the first running under the lights. Sponsors over the decades have included Busch, Budweiser, Goody's, Sharpie and Irwin Tools, with Bass Pro Shops taking over in 2016. Since 2020 the night race has been part of the Cup Series playoffs.
