Martinsville Speedway's Late Model classic dates to 1970, when it began as a Late Model Sportsman event, and adopted its current Late Model Stock format in 1985; over the decades it has carried names including the Winston Classic and Cardinal 500. Commonly called the 'Daytona 500' of Late Model Stock racing, it is the biggest event in the discipline and the final leg of the Virginia Triple Crown, with the winner receiving Martinsville's traditional grandfather clock.
