About the SMART Modified Tour
The SMART Modified Tour (Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams) was founded in September 1988 to revive open-wheel Modified racing in the Southeast, beginning competition in 1989. After a NASCAR-sanctioned era from 2005 to 2017, the tour returned as an independent series in late 2020 and ran its first full season since 2004 in 2021.
