About the 47th Slinger Nationals
The Slinger Nationals began in 1980 at Slinger Speedway's high-banked quarter-mile, with inaugural winner Larry Detjens — for whom the winner's trophy is named — killed in a racing accident at another Wisconsin track the following year. Contested as a multi-race mini-series in its early decades before becoming a single event in 2000, the Nationals have been won by Matt Kenseth, William Byron and Ty Majeski among others. The 2026 edition is the 47th running, paying $20,000 to win over 200 laps.
