Vegas to Reno is billed as the longest off-road race in the United States, a point-to-point desert race of roughly 500 miles across Nevada's gravel, dry lake beds and rocky mountain passes. It is the flagship event of Best in the Desert, the sanctioning body founded by Casey Folks in 1984 that expanded to four-wheel vehicles in 1996. For 2026 the race runs 'the other way' — starting near Reno and heading south — for the first time in its history.

This is an open-desert off-road racing route across the Nevada backcountry between the Reno and Las Vegas areas, not a fixed circuit. Point-to-point courses of several hundred miles are laid out over natural terrain including sand, rock, dry lakebeds and mountain passes for events run by Best in the Desert and similar organizers.
